The dynamic Rangers, led by Manager Bruce Bochy, earned their first World Series title on Wednesday night.
Josh Sborz set down the Diamondbacks in order in the ninth inning to finish off the Rangers’ 5-0 win in Game 5, which clinched the franchise’s first World Series title. After being no-hit for six innings, Texas finally broke through for a run against Diamondbacks right-hander Zac Gallen in the seventh. From there, the Rangers rolled.
Mitch Garver’s RBI single in the seventh broke a scoreless tie and was Texas’s third consecutive hit off Gallen, whose only blemish before the seventh inning was a two-out walk to Nathaniel Lowe in the fifth. Nathan Eovaldi pitched six scoreless innings for the Rangers and stranded nine men on base. Texas, which added four insurance runs in the ninth, improved to 11-0 on the road in the postseason.
