The Texas Rangers could need Kumar Rocker’s services next year with a small number of pitchers under contract for 2025.

Hey, the smart and safe route isn’t always the fun and exciting route. Rocker has started just 15 games since the Rangers selected him third overall in the 2022 MLB Draft. He’s only made nine starts since his return from a year-long, injury-induced layoff.
Texas can retain their own free agents or pursue external ones. That, of course, depends on how much ownership is willing to spend after a dormant offseason last winter that followed mega-million spending sprees in the two prior. A great deal of that was spent on starting pitching. Rocker and fellow Vanderbilt-bred right-hander Jack Leiter — who pitched five innings of three-run ball vs. the Angels on Saturday night in his sixth major league start — represent the Rangers’ best chances at internal additions. The Rangers gave Leiter, Owen White and Cole Winn opportunities to compete for a major league roster spot this spring in the hope that one of their young pitching prospects could break through and force their hand.
“He’s not even the same guy right now,” Bochy said. “ must have been bothering him then. You can see how free and easy his delivery is, the command and everything.
