DeGrom will face hitters Thursday afternoon in a 20-pitch round of live batting at Globe Life Field.
FILE - Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom throws during the third inning of the team's baseball game against the New York Yankees, April 28, 2023, in Arlington, Texas. Two-time Cy Young Award winner deGrom threw off a mound Monday, June 17, 2024, for the first time since reconstructive right elbow surgery just over a year ago, while the next start for Max Scherzer could be his season debut for the Rangers.
DeGrom will throw a typical pre-game warmup bullpen session, then throw the equivalent of a 20-pitch inning to a group of minor league hitters. If Thursday’s session goes well, he’s expected to throw a two-inning session to hitters while the Rangers are in Boston early next week. That might be the last hurdle before he begins a rehab assignment.“I’m excited,” he said. “You want to see where you are. Bullpens are one thing, but it’s different when a hitter steps in.
