There's also a possibility the team might return to an over-the-air package, similar to a decade ago when they had a Friday night deal with Channel 21 in Dallas-Fort Worth.While the Rangers' streaming deal is becoming the norm in major sports, the Dallas Stars, also owned by the same organization, are currently not making any changes to their viewing methods. The shift towards streaming is evident across the sports landscape, with cable viewership declining. The Rangers' decision to pursue a streaming platform is driven by the league's emphasis on the value of streaming rights and the significant revenue the team generates from its TV contract. The Stars' smaller local contract makes a streaming-only approach more feasible compared to the Rangers.For fans who aren't currently cable subscribers, the streaming platform will eventually become their primary option for watching Rangers games. The service is expected to launch in early February 2025.There are several national exclusive packages held by ESPN, FOX, and Apple TV+ that may take precedence over local broadcasts. The play-by-play team will remain largely unchanged, with Dave Raymond continuing as the lead announcer. Emily Jones, a field reporter, will be doing a limited number of games in 2025.The Rangers' aggressive offseason strategy, fueled by optimism over the new TV deal, has pushed their payroll to the seventh-highest in baseball. Despite paying a $10 million penalty for exceeding the Competitive Balance Tax (CBT) threshold in 2024, the Rangers are aiming to keep their payroll under the $241 million CBT threshold for 2025 to reset their clock and minimize future penalties
