In East Texas , Longview Police Department is facing social media scrutiny after a patrolling officer struck a mountain lion with his vehicle, then hoisted up the carcass and smiled for a photo. The incident occurred about 3 a.m. Tuesday, according to Wednesday update to Facebook by the police department. The officer involved was patrolling through the 3800 block of West Loop 281 when he struck an animal with his vehicle.
San Antonio's first freeze is in the books, but a big weather shift is on the way. 'Due to the extent of its injuries,' the police department wrote, 'the animal was put down at the scene.' The department's Facebook post was accompanied by a photo of an officer posing with the body of the deceased mountain lion. Some social media commenters were less than pleased with the officer's expression in the photo.
