Fifty communities across the state, including Dallas and Fort Worth, were granted a total $30.9 million for local parks projects.

The City of Weatherford in Parker County received a $750,000 non-urban outdoor grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission for renovations and development at McGratton Park.The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission recently approved more than $30.9 million in local park grants.

The record-breaking funding will be used to help create and enhance outdoor recreational opportunities, according to a department news release.will gain nature trails, native landscaping, playgrounds, splash pads, sports fields, kayak launches, piers and other park amenities,” officials said in the release. “The commission, which administers the local park grants program for Texas, awarded grants to projects in various categories based on community population and scope.

The city’s parks and recreation department received $2 million for renovation of the zoo’s Hall of Wonders building and an additional $1.5 million for improvements at Oak Grove Park, including sports courts, shaded playground equipment, pavilions, native plantings, trails and site amenities.$150,000 for trails, access ramp to an existing boat dock and fishing pier, accessible parking, picnic facilities, solar lighting and site amenities.

The first scoop of dirt was dumped in a truck following the Upper Trinity Regional Water District groundbreaking ceremony for Lake Ralph Hall and Leon Hurse Dam near Ladonia, Texas, Wednesday, June 16, 2021. The lake will provide 54 million gallons of water per day for some 29 communities in Denton and Collin counties. The $490 million project should begin delivering water by 2025. The lake is named after Hall who was a United States Representative for Texas's 4th congressional district.
