Oystermen face increasing pressure after Texas closes another fishery due to illness reports
in Galveston Bay after receiving reports that oysters harvested in the area may have made people sick.
Texas' oyster season began Nov. 1 and is scheduled to last until April 30, 2023. Oyster season has gotten off to another difficult start this year due to the lack of available fisheries, which have been damaged by years' worth of punishing storms. The conditions have led Texas officials to place strict regulations on which areas of the coast can be harvested, leading to overcrowding at the areas that remain.
