Texas NAACP vows to fight anti-diversity hiring bill with ‘everything in our arsenal’

Most public universities have had DEI programs promoted on their websites and used on their campuses. At the University of Texas at Austin, each college, school and unit has a diversity, equity and inclusion officer as well as a website to highlight the importance of those efforts, a change made after campuswide protests in 2017 led to the removal of statues of Confederate figures including Robert E. Lee.
But Abbott, a Republican, has argued those programs have gone astray and are now being used to discriminate against certain job candidates if they aren’t considered diverse enough. Even with DEI programs in place, colleges and universities have been struggling to build diverse faculty and student bodies.
