Texas mom told police she slit 'evil child's' throat, suffocated her

The child had a laceration and ligature marks on her neck, Gonzalez tweeted. Towne gave a statement to police Sunday and the injuries were consistent with statements she made, he said.

In an initial bond hearing on Monday morning, prosecutors described in graphic detail how Towne recounted the way she said she killed her daughter. Towne told police she led the girl into the woods, and attempted to slit her throat with a knife, prosecutors said. The cut didn't go deep enough to kill the girl, and she started to scream, prosecutors said. Her mother then said she tried to suffocate the girl for more than half an hour before she died, prosecutors said.Hospital workers recovered the child’s body from the mother’s car and the child was pronounced dead at 12:20 p.m., according to Harris County Sheriff’s Office Sgt.

Towne had previous interactions with police due to experiencing homelessness, officials said, but investigators Sunday said they did not yet have information as to whether the family had a history of interacting with Child Protective Services, nor did they have any medical records.
