Texas opened coach Chris Beard's first season at ranked fifth in the AP Top 25, its highest preseason ranking since the 2009-10 campaign. The Longhorns briefly fell out of the rankings in January before climbing back in and finishing at No. 25 in the final AP ballot. Texas went 22-10 overall, finished fourth in the Big 12 and earned a No. 6 seed in the NCAA tournament.
This season, Texas will lean heavily on five returning veterans: guard Marcus Carr and forwards Timmy Allen, Christian Bishop, Brock Cunningham and big Dylan Disu. Beard also recruited Iowa State transfer Tyrese Hunter, the 2022 Big 12 freshman of the year, and New Mexico State graduate transfer Sir’Jabari Rice, a three-time All-Western Athletic Conference selection.
