Gov. Dan Patrick, the state’s second most powerful elected official, said he will skip his speech to the NRA Convention in Houston due to the recent shooting in Uvalde.

As of Friday morning, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz is still scheduled to speak this afternoon just former President Donald Trump. The NRA’s annual gathering is being held in Houston, less than 300 miles from Uvalde, where 19 children and 2 adults were killed at Robb Elementary School on Tuesday. The 18-year-old gunman, who purchased an AR-15 style rifle days after his birthday, was killed by law enforcement officers at the scene..
