The Chronicle mapped out the biggest winners from every Texas county over the last 31 years using this data. The winners represented for each county are based on where they reported living at the time, not necessarily where they bought the ticket.Some winners chose to remain anonymous after receiving their prize. The Texas Lottery Commission says that those who win $1 million or more can choose to suppress their identities from being shared in the database.
Nine counties have never had a winner report that they lived there. This includes Borden, Kenedy and Loving Counties. These counties have smaller populations — Loving County, according to 2021 U.S. Census Bureau data — so there are not as many chances for people to come up with a winning ticket. Harris County residents have hit on 75,753 Texas Lottery tickets since 1992, with 60 residents winning $1 million or more.The top winning ticket was won through a Mega Millions drawing on November of 2007. Four people won the $330 million jackpot, three of which lived outside of Texas. They split it four ways, with the Harris resident walking away with $82.5 million. The unidentified person bought the ticket while living in Cypress at the time.
