With Tuesday's launch of the 88th legislative session, Texas lawmakers are officially back in business at the state capitol facing the challenge of spending a $33 billion surplus..

With only a symbolic show of opposition from the far right, Republican Representative Dade Phelan coasted to re-election, drawing all but three votes.The state’s $33 billion budget surplus is top of mind for Texas lawmakers and understandably for local schools as well. FOX 26’s Damali Keith spoke with the Fort Bend ISD superintendent about the concerns teachers and parents have.

"I have heard about the economy, inflation, and the difficulty in making ends meet. Ever-increasing property taxes have led many to feel year in and year out that they are renting their property from the government.
