Duncanville five-star forward Ron Holland committed to Texas on Monday.
On Sept. 4, Duncanville senior Ron Holland, the best player in the state, teased his forthcoming decision. He uploaded a series of photos from a recent visit to Texas, each slide showing Holland draped in Texas gear alongside a real cliff-hanger of a caption:"Stay home? #notcommitted.”
Two months later, the state’s No. 1-ranked recruit decided to remove the question mark and shorten the hashtag. Holland, a 6-foot-8 five-star forward, committed to Texas Saturday morning. “I have grown up in Texas and I want to be loyal to my home state," Holland told ESPN recruiting analyst Paul Biancardi."I have done a lot of winning in the state of Texas and plan to continue those winning ways at The University of Texas with coach Beard and his staff."Holland is the first player committed to Texas’ 2023 signing class.
Duncanville has claimed two straight state titles with Holland roaming the court, though the Panthers had to forfeit last year's 6A championship after the University Interscholastic League determined the program used an illegible player during the season. Holland’s smooth athleticism, tenacious rebounding and winning pedigree all helped him bud into the nation’s No. 10-ranked recruit for one of the nation’s premiere high school basketball programs.
