But state Rep. Briscoe Cain, R-Deer Park, brought a point of order against the amendment, alleging it violated House rules because it was not germane to the bill they were debating. That legislation, House Bill 3266, would ban “Glock switches,” a device similar to a bump stock that can turn a handgun into a fully automatic weapon.BACKGROUND:Rep. Vikki Goodwin, an Austin Democrat, then presented a similar amendment that would ban the sale of handguns to Texans under age 21.
Uvalde families have promised to continue fighting for the raise-the-age legislation in future sessions. They say the legislation could have saved their children: The 18-year-old gunman had purchased his AR-15-style rifle just days after his birthday.
