Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says he'll ask for donations to build a state border wall
, a podcast about GOP politics, he will crowdfund for the wall’s construction.
When he officially unveils his border wall plans later this week, Abbott said he will provide a public link “for everybody in the United States or everybody in the entire world who wants to help Texas build a border wall.” The donations will go to a fund “overseen by the state of Texas in the governor’s office,” Abbott said, promising “great transparency.”plans for how his administration will redirect billions of dollars former President Donald Trump diverted from the military’s budget to build sections of the wall.
Biden has halted most border wall construction that began under Trump, fulfilling a campaign promise. Trump announced Wednesday he has accepted an invitation from Abbott to join the Texas governor on a trip to the border in two weeks on June 30.Abbott is not the first Trump ally to try raising public donations for border wall construction. In 2018, Air Force veteran Brian Kolfage launched We Build the Wall, a nonprofit that solicited funds to build a private border wall, and recruited former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon in the effort.
