Hitting a police officer with a water bottle would come with a minimum six-month jail term in the state of Texas under a proposal unveiled Thursday by Gov. Greg Abbott , along with a slew of other new, severe penalties for protesting that’s viewed as going too far, in a very similar plan to one released in Florida earlier in the week....
Abbott made the announcement while he was alongside Republican candidates hoping to win Democratic-held state house seats in Dallas County.“Today, we are announcing more legislative proposals to do even more to protect our law enforcement officers as well as do more to keep our community safe,” Abbott said.Texas Democrats slammed the announcement, calling it a “failed distractionary press conference.
