that Ashanti Grant remained in critical condition following the shooting Tuesday night on a freeway in Houston. No arrests have been made.that a man, woman and their two children were driving on Southwest Freeway at about 9 p.m. Family members say they were driving to the grocery store.

A police statement says the family’s SUV was inbound when it got between two vehicles that appeared to be racing, the Associated Press reports. One of the vehicles, a white pickup truck, believed to be a GMC Denali, cut off the SUV several times, then pulled behind the SUV. Someone in the pickup truck reportedly opened fire on the family’s vehicle. Ashanti was wounded in the head, reports say. No one else the vehicle was wounded.

“You’re just numb. You cry so much, there’s no more tears next,” Ashanti’s grandmother, Elaine Williams, tells ABC 13. “She’s the sweetest little angel. ... She’s just an innocent child. She didn’t deserve this.”“We’re going to do everything we can to find these individuals,” a police official tells click2houston.com. “Just another tragic incident that has occurred, and so prayers for this family and that little girl.
