Alabama's loss to Vanderbilt dropped Crimson Tide out of top spot and moved Texas back to No. 1 for second time this season.
AUSTIN — After a week out of the top spot, unbeaten Texas returned to the No. 1 ranking in the Associated Press top 25 football poll Sunday after a rash of upsets on Saturday. Four of the top 11 teams all lost games Saturday. Those include previously top-ranked Alabama , which fell to Vanderbilt , and Tennessee, which lost to Arkansas. Missouri and Michigan also lost in upsets. The Crimson Tide slipped all the way to No. 7 and even fell behind No.
They were on a bye last week but Saturday afternoon will renew their Red River Rivalry with Oklahoma, which sits at 18th. Ohio State got nine first-place votes and are in second place. Oregon ranks No. 3, and Penn State No. 4. Texas A&M leapfrogged 10 teams to climb to No. 15 on the strength of a 41-10 crushing of Missouri at Kyle Field Saturday.
