Texas interim coach Rodney Terry spends games treading up and down the sideline, barking instructions loud enough to carry through the din of crowd noise.AUSTIN — Oklahoma coach Porter Moser and Texas interim coach Rodney Terry first became acquainted in their late 20s, then two ambitious rival assistants wrestling over many of the same high school recruits.
Rather than derail, the Longhorns have sped up, rolling into the penultimate week of the regular season tied for first and with their sights fixed on a precious No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. And as Texas hoisted itself out of another halftime hole to beat the Sooners 85-83 in overtime on Saturday, Moser couldn’t help but see Terry’s fingerprints smeared all over the Longhorns.
As further evidence backing Moser’s comments, Terry’s Texan twang was as hoarse as it’s been all season after that 45-minute tug-of-war with the Sooners. That, too, was no surprise.
