Unemployment in the San Antonio-New Braunfels metro area fell to 3.3% from 3.8% in March, the Texas Workforce Commission said.
The number of Texans on the job topped 14 million to reach a record high in April as the state added another 42,600 positions — its ninth-straight month of growth. Including the latest gains, the state has added 306,000 jobs in the past year, the Texas Workforce Commission said Friday. The new total is up 2.2% from April 2023. “The addition of 42,600 jobs over the month of April is a sign that the Texas economy remains strong,” Workforce Commissioner Joe Esparza said.
The new look of energy jobs: San Antonio program trains workers to meet growing needs in renewables. Unemployment dropped in all the state’s metro areas, Workforce Commission data show. Midland has the lowest unadjusted unemployment rate of 2.2%, down from 2.6% a month ago. Amarillo and College Station-Bryan had the next lowest rates at 2.6%, down from 3.1% in March. In Austin-Round Rock, the rate was 3%, down from 3.5%.
