Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw, a veteran law enforcement officer with a career spanning nearly five decades, announced his retirement

While not as hot as the last few days, heat index temps over 108 could still lead to heat-related illness Friday after more than 15 years leading the state's law enforcement agency.

In 2004, McCraw retired from the FBI to become Texas Homeland Security Director. He was appointed DPS Director in August 2009.
