Renowned tie-down roper Marty Yates, of Stephenville, rode his trusty horse Cyndy to the competition and on to victory. He's set for Sunday's final.
A Texas cowboy was having a bumpy ride to the Houston rodeo when he decided to do what cowboys do best. In bumper-to-bumper traffic on I-610, the internal combustion engine wasn't doing the trick, so Stephenville tie-down roper Marty Yates got on his horse and rode down the highway median to make it to his event in time.
His wife captured the moment on video, writing on Facebook that 'Marty Yates does what it takes to get to the Houston Short Round! We gotta provide for that baby.' The couple welcomed daughter Miley, their first child, four months ago. Yates made it with no time to spare, but managed to win his semifinal event with mare Cyndy, moving on to the final championship on Sunday.
