Preliminary totals from the Texas Secretary of State showed the “for” vote ahead about 66% to 34% against. Those totals included about 580,000 votes. Across nearly all of Texas’ most populous counties, the for vote was ahead. In Dallas County, early voting results showed 39,298 had voted for Prop 7 while 23,381 were against.The total program is $10 billion, with about $7.
A poll from the University of Houston and Texas Southern University showed 68% of respondents in favor of Proposition 7. Fifteen percent were against and 17% indicated they were undecided.The proposal comes in part in reaction to the winter 2021 storm that brought the ERCOT power grid to the brink of collapse. Blackouts were widespread during the freeze and more than 200 people died.
