Texas Children's Hospital is using technology and community support to make the holidays brighter for children who have to spend Christmas in the hospital.
Seasonal weather returns to Houston to end the week. Texas Children’s Hospital is bringing some holiday cheer to kids who have to spend Christmas in the hospital. The hospital has a Roaming Robot Program , which lets a robot walk through areas of the hospital where children in isolation cannot go. One boy, Jaxon, who has been in kidney failure for years, was able to pick out his Christmas tree at a tree farm thanks to the robot. He had to go through another difficult operation this week.
His adoptive mother donated his first kidney, but it never took. The second one transplanted earlier this month also failed. Dr. Julia Steinke, a pediatric nephrologist at the hospital, explained that Jaxon is expected to stay over Christmas. She said this is a time of giving and that people can reach out and ask how they can help out those who are less fortunate, especially children who have to be in the hospital during the holidays
