The Legacy of 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' Close When Texas Chain Saw was released in 1974, it shook moviegoers with its documentary “true crime” feel, grotesque cinematography, and haunting killer who would soon be placed on the Mount Rushmore of slasher villains. Even today, there’s just something about this film that makes you feel like you're hanging off the side of a cliff helpless to the horrific events that have transpired.
