Texas officials are building an 80-acre base camp in Eagle Pass that will allow the state to permanently station nearly 2,000 National Guard members along the border under Gov. Greg Abbott’s ramped-up enforcement efforts. The facility, announced by Abbott on Friday, will sit several miles southeast of Shelby Park, a key border area near the Eagle Pass International Bridge that was seized last month by Texas National Guard members.
