Guard Quenton Jackson scores 16 points to help the Aggies hold off Florida 56-55 Tuesday...
Buzz Williams and Texas A&M ended an eight-game losing streak in the SEC on Tuesday night at home with a 56-55 win against Florida. It had been the longest skid of Williams’ head coaching career.COLLEGE STATION — Eight was enough for Texas A&M. And at least for a night, it was like the good old days for the Aggies — with those being, in this case, a month ago.
The Aggies grabbed a 51-49 lead with 2:53 on Ethan Henderson’s dunk following a pinpoint pass from Andre Gordon, but the Gators quickly countered with a 3-pointer by Tyree Appleby to regain a one-point lead with 2:31 left. “There’s no secret to it. It’s just a testament to the work we continued to put in,” Jackson said of pulling out the tight victory. “We’ve just got to keep working — and it paid off.”
A&M also broke a four-game losing streak to Florida , dating to the 2016 SEC tournament in Nashville, Tenn. Jackson led all scorers with 16 points and was the only Aggie to score in double figures. “Whether we’re shooting 50 percent or 100 percent, we expect every one to go in,” Jackson said of the Aggies keeping confident during the rough stretch. “As life goes, nothing happens perfect all the time …”“You’ve just got to have faith in your guys. Everyone knows this is a game of runs,” said 7-foot A&M center Javonte Brown, who earned the start to counter the size of 7-foot Florida center Colin Castleton. “We played hard and we ended up coming back.
