Jerry Hughes already has more sacks this season than he had in 2020 and 2021 combined.
A Houston Texans fan watches the Texans play the New York Giants during the first quarter of an NFL football game Sunday, Nov. 13, 2022, in East Rutherford, N.J.EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. —Jerry Hughes continues to defy his age.
The 34-year-old defensive end, who has been arguably the Texans’ best defensive player this year, picked up his eighth sack of the season Sunday against the Giants. Hughes already has more sacks this season than he had in 2020 and 2021 combined when he was with the Bills.“The coaching staff is doing a tremendous job in allowing me to cover throughout the week,” Hughes said. “My teammates are playing tremendous ball, especially on the backend in the secondary. It’s causing the quarterback to go through his reads and when you do that, it allows us as a front to get back there, because they are buying time.
The Texans signed Hughes this past offseason to a two-year, $10 million deal. It’s turned out to be a bargain.
