In the first game of the NFL postseason, the Houston Texans defeated the visiting Los Angeles Chargers 32-12 at NRG Stadium on Saturday. The Texans advanced to the AFC divisional round for the second straight season, while the Chargers continued their losing ways in the postseason. C.J. Stroud played like a quarterback who can lead the Texans on a deep playoff run, finishing 22-of-33 for 282 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
Stroud was most effective when targeting the middle of the field, completing 13-of-16 passes for 223 yards and a score on in-breaking routes. Joe Mixon added 119 scrimmage yards and a score for the Texans, and the defense forced four turnovers, deflected a punt, blocked an extra point that D'Angelo Ross returned for two points, notched four sacks and nine quarterback hits. Justin Herbert had one of the worst performances of his NFL career, finishing 14-of-32 for 242 yards, a touchdown, and four interceptions, including one returned for a score. Herbert's four interceptions were more than the three he had in 16 games during the regular season. The Chargers' struggles in the postseason continued, as they failed to replace top receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.
