Back in the city, my friend Thomas suggested a trip to the Palisades, the ribbon of dense woodland that borders the Hudson on the New Jersey side of the river. Fearful of my abilities and stamina he told me to bring Eeyo on the subway, getting on at 4th Street where there is an elevator, and he would then meet me in Washington Heights at the 168th Street subway on his trusty. In fact the Eeyo is miraculously light, so hauling it up a flight or two of stairs was child’s play, even for me .
