Tesla's brand value has declined for the second consecutive year, falling to an estimated $43 billion. This decline is attributed to various factors, including consumer perceptions of CEO Elon Musk's behavior and political rhetoric, which have impacted Tesla's brand scores for consideration, reputation, and recommendation.

Tesla 's brand value has experienced a second consecutive year of decline in 2025, falling to an estimated $43 billion from $58.3 billion at the beginning of the year, according to Brand Finance, a research and consulting firm. This drop positions Tesla behind Toyota, which holds the top spot with a brand value of $64.7 billion. The firm attributes this decline to various factors, including consumer perceptions of CEO Elon Musk .

\Brand Finance CEO David Haigh stated, 'There are people who think he's wonderful, but many that don't.' He further explained that Musk's public persona and political rhetoric can influence consumer decisions regarding Tesla vehicles. While Tesla maintains a high customer loyalty score of 90% in the U.S., its scores for consideration, reputation, and recommendation have declined across major markets like the U.S., Europe, and Asia. \This decline in brand perception is mirrored in Tesla's sales performance. Despite a global increase in demand for battery electric vehicles, Tesla's sales figures dropped by about 1% to 1.79 million units. In the U.S., Tesla's market share in EVs contracted to 49% from 55% the previous year, as reported by Cox Automotive. Brand Finance's brand strength index score for Tesla has also dipped from just over 80 to just under 65, indicating a weakening brand position compared to competitors. Haigh cautioned that unless Tesla introduces compelling new products and mitigates the negative impact of Musk's behavior, it risks being perceived as past its peak and facing a decline in sales and profitability
