A man has died after his Tesla Cybertruck veered off-road for an 'unknown reason' and then caught fire, marking the first known fatal accident involving the electric pickup
A Texas man has tragically died after his Tesla Cybertruck veered off the road for 'unknown reasons' and caught fire in what is believed to be the first fatal accident involving Elon Musk's latest electric pickup. The vehicle, which has not yet undergone independent crash tests, was reportedly in 'full self-drive mode' when the incident occurred.
Despite this tragic event, Tesla maintains a strong safety record across its vehicle range and remains confident that the Cybertruck, hailed as exceptionally durable, will continue this trend. Recent figures suggest the Cybertruck is leading the way in US electric pickup sales, with an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 units on the roads and monthly sales averaging around 1,754.
The fatal accident happened in the early hours of Monday, August 6, at about 1.45am in Baytown, Texas, when the Cybertruck collided with a concrete culvert off Fisher Road near the Grand Parkway, causing the vehicle to catch fire and sustain significant damage. The Cybertruck driver was declared dead at the scene. Due to severe burns and extensive fire damage, authorities have been unable to identify the driver or retrieve crucial details such as the license plate and VIN, reports the Mirror US.
