Anyone who bought the product is being told to return it to the store

Tesco shoppers have been urged not to eat a popular grocery item that could contain traces of plastic. The warning was issued by the Food Standards Agency after it was found the product could be dangerous if consumed.

The supermarket giant recalled its 500g bags of the Creamfields Grated Cheddar. Any products with the best before date as March 23rd have been recalled, with customers asked to return them for a refund. The warning states: "Tesco is recalling Tesco Creamfields Grated Cheddar because it may contain small pieces of plastic, making it unsafe to eat."The customer notice, which apologised for the inconvenience, told customers not to eat the product and to return it to the store it was purchased from for a full refund to be issued. It added that there could potentially be small pieces of 'soft clear plastic' inside the product.

"If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund, no receipt is required," the notice read. For any further information on the product or the reasons for it being recalled, contact Tesco Customer Services on 0800 505 555.
