With Terry Francona leaving, here are a few more possible replacements to consider.
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- There is a golf course, maybe two or three, in Ireland with a tee time awaiting Terry Francona.
He’s been wrestling with the idea for the last couple of years. But it really hit him earlier this season when he was returning from an early morning doctor’s appointment while making a beeline to Progressive Field for a day game. Speaking of being in charge, here are a few more managerial candidates that may be under consideration by the Guardians as Francona’s replacement:Cleveland drafted McCullough, 43, with its 22nd round pick in 2002 from Eastern Carolina. He caught in their minor league system from 2002 through 2005. He managed in Toronto’s minor league system from 2007 through 2014 before the Dodgers hired him as their minor league fielder coordinator. He was named to their big league coaching staff in 2021.
The Guardians have been working from a group of 45 to 48 candidates. They started compiling the list when Francona told them in August he was going to step down at the end of the year. It’s stands to reason that the list has been narrowed.
