Abdalraouf Abdallah, a terrorist friend of the man who killed 22 people in a bombing at the U.K.'s Manchester Arena in 2017, was reportedly released from jail Tuesday. He left an East Yorkshire, England prison after his sentence for preparing and funding terrorist acts expired, according to the The network reported Abdallah had been imprisoned since 2021 for violating parole conditions.
He was reportedly released the prior year from a sentence given in 2016 for helping four people travel to Syria for terrorist acts. Salman Abedi, the man who carried out the 2017 bombing, visited Abdallah while he was in prison, according to the BBC. Abdallah groomed Abedi during their meetings, playing an important role in his radicalization, the report noted. Abdallah also reportedly participated in courses in prison that focused on the reasons why he broke the law, as well as rehabilitation meant to manage the “risk” of people who had been involved with “extremist” or “terrorism-related activity.”he still posed a “high risk of serious harm” and had a “high propensity to radicalise others." Psychologists concluded Abdallah also continued showing “levels of engagement with extremism and intent to commit terrorist-related offending," according to a parole boardto be not “robust” enough for managing him outside the prison. He has denied any involvement in the 2017 bombing, according to the BBC.
