Deputy Minister of Communications Teo Nie Ching in Parliament today revealed that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has blocked 549 porn sites and 69 prostitution websites from January to 1 June this year. She also revealed that MCMC had collaborated with social media operators to remove similar items on the latter’s platforms.
According to Bernama, Teo said that 308 porn items and 838 prostitution contents from various platforms were removed. These include X and Telegram. Furthermore, the Deputy Communications Minister also revealed that 7 cases involving porn content are currently under investigation by MCMC. She stressed that these actions will continue based on monitoring and complaints received from the authorities and the public.
Teo was responding to a question from Datuk Siti Aminah Aching about the government’s plan to combat the ‘dark side’ activities and actions against account operators offering online prostitution activities on social media platforms. Meanwhile, Teo said the ministry and MCMC are still awaiting feedback from the operator of X following its decision to allow users to upload, create and disseminate pornographic content.
