Activists set up a tent city across from San Francisco City Hall to protest recent sweeps of homeless encampments, highlighting the challenges faced by the unhoused population and demanding a say in finding solutions.

A tent city emerged across from San Francisco City Hall on Tuesday. Activists assert their goal is to draw attention to recent clearances of homeless encampments. On San Francisco 's Civic Center Plaza, directly opposite City Hall, a small community of tents appeared on Tuesday. Luke, currently homeless after traveling to San Francisco from Anchorage, Alaska, stated, 'It's difficult. Housing, jobs, everything, it can be really hard.

This is a way for people to not be pushed into the cracks and corners and to not be swept away.' Poor Magazine, an online publication and advocacy group, orchestrated the gathering, setting up tents in City Hall's shadow, arguing those affected by homelessness should have a voice in finding solutions. Tiny, also known as Povertyskola, an organizer, stated, 'This is a citable offense. I heard you asking about visibility, people like me are not looked at. I heard you asking about visibility and yeah, we're intentionally right here.' The organization conveyed that the encampment was coordinated with comparable camps in Oakland, Vallejo, Fresno, Los Angeles, and Seattle. Organizers noted on Tuesday evening that park rangers arrived to inform them they couldn't camp there, highlighting the precise issue they believe the homeless face since the Supreme Court allowed cities to dismantle homeless encampments. Tiny said, 'Last night the park rangers came by and said, you have to leave. So, it was life imitating life, right?' Those assisting in organizing the camp shared their own experiences with homelessness. Leajay Harper stated, 'I was unhoused for 10 years on Wood Street, one of Oakland's largest encampments, and communities. Over 200 people there and they swept us finally last May.
