Grayson Chrisley became one of the most unexpected breakouts in the two-part premiere of The Chrisleys: Back to Reality, emerging as one of the most genuine players in the saga. In his one-on-one interview, Grayson wouldn’t admit he'd been hit hard by having his parents in prison, but his pain transferred harder than any other family member.

Having given up baseball, pulling extra weight while navigating high school, and advising his older brother to think about therapy, Grayson has become the anchor of the Chrisleys. His maturity is shining through, and if this is now reality, this is one family member worthy of following. Grayson Chrisley Is Keeping Some Cherished Treasures To Himself A lot has changed since Chrisley Knows Best was canceled and Todd and Julie Chrisley were found guilty and sent to prison. Even without the cameras rolling, the family was crumbling and falling apart. Throughout the premiere of the new season, it was more evident than ever that the antics of the original show were all for the cameras. The Chrisleys were highly dysfunctioning behind the scenes. Despite the divide, it was Grayson who seemed to be stuck in the middle. Originally, having been in his sister's care as a minor, he lived with Savannah and Chloe as his relationship with Chase Chrisley began to suffer. Now 19, Grayson was forced to grow up and face reality in a manner that his siblings, as well as his parents and grandparents, had not. Grayson's first scene in the episode found him back in his old room at his parents' house, reminiscing with a producer by his side. But this wasn't a jovial moment. It turned into a moment of reflection. Grayson kept a brave face on, despite talking about the memories he'd lost without his parents there. His biggest admission was revealing that he had quit baseball. Why? He never played a game that she didn't attend. Some may think this might sound ridiculous, but having her present was a comfort. Perhaps his playing baseball without her would have been an acknowledgment that she was in prison, or"away" as the family very much reiterated throughout. As disappointing as it was for him, the most heartbreaking moment of the scene was when he showed the producer a bear Julie had given him. Inside was a voice message from her that he was adamant about keeping for himself. As much as the producer tried to get him to play it, he refused. While the rest of the family was willing to exploit their story for a TV show, Grayson maintained his reality. While he didn't appear to be reluctant to film, as other scenes showcased him in other lights, he was not going to give up his only bit of solace during a very public circumstance. Grayson Stepped Up to the Plate If the headlines weren't about Julie and Todd, they were focused on Savannah and Chase. Savannah for her unstoppable efforts to bow down to power in order to earn a pardon for her parents and Chase for his family dividing arrest. The family was incredibly divided, where everyone essentially picked one of the older siblings. Nanny Faye, Grayson, and Chloe were Team Savannah, while Nanny Pam and Papa Harvey were Team Chase, even living with him as they both took jobs since the townhouse Julie and Todd were going to buy for them went away. Aware that his relationship with his older brother was faltering, Grayson was eager to spend time with Chase at a virtual shooting range. It all started fine until the real conversations came up. Before their brother outing, Grayson told Nanny Faye,"The same set of parents he lost is the same set I lost, but I'm not going to sit there and hold his hand because I've already been a big brother to him, he ain't been to me." Even with frustration, he wanted to find a way to make things better for his brother. So, while golfing, Grayson stepped up."It all starts with just bettering yourself, which helps everybody. Including yourself in the process," Grayson told his brother,"Go to therapy."Grayson is aware that Chase is struggling. He is pushing him to get better, even if it means temporary pushback. The fact that it was Grayson who advised therapy before the adults speaks volumes. He’s acutely aware of the family's problems but too young to help. Grayson’s maturity is the brightest part of the series. Whether anyone in the family would like to admit it or not, Grayson has become the backbone of the family. He doesn't care about the cameras. He cares about the family. The Chrisleys: Back to Reality airs Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on Lifetime.
