Last month, it was reported that Giorgi was being investigated for allegedly acquiring false vaccination documentation to prove she was vaccinated against COVID-19.

Giorgi competed at last year’s Australian Open and U.S. Open; both countries required proof of vaccination for travelers at the time. As of July, travelers entering Australia no longer have to provide proof of COVID vaccination. Giorgi is set to compete at this year’s tournament, which gets underway on Monday, Jan. 16.
Novak Djokovic, who is not vaccinated, was deported from Australia last year after trying to enter the country for the Australian Open. He’s scheduled to play in this year’s tournament.
