Patrick Mahomes led a Chiefs comeback for an overtime win over the Titans in a showdown of AFC contenders.

Unlike Willis' first start, the Titans did a good job of getting the rookie quarterback in rhythm early. The Titans' first drive stalled in four plays, but Willis found success with rollouts and read options on the next two drives, rushing twice for 24 yards and avoiding rushers to connect with tight end Austin Hooper on two well-placed downfield throws to build the Titans' 14-9 halftime lead.

The stat sheet didn't accurately capture how well Willis played in the first half, though. Receiver Chris Conley dropped what should've been a long completion on a perfectly-thrown third-down go ball that could've set the Titans up for at least another field goal. Plus his rushing success worked as an extension of Henry, taking designed runs and bootlegs off play-action when the Chiefs sold out on Henry's carries.

He wasn't flawless. He underthrew Dontrell Hilliard on a could-be touchdown that didn't end up counting because of a defensive penalty. But the progress from start one to start two was evident early, and that early success went a long way toward building confidence in Willis as a viable option this season and beyond. After the Chiefs gained 148 yards and scored nine points on their first two drives, it seemed like the Titans were in store for a long night.

Things only got more frustrating for Mahomes in the second half, as the Titans forced a turnover and continued to pressure him with particular success by defensive end Mario Edwards Jr.Willis wasn't the only rookie who impressed for the Titans. Tight end Chig Okonkwo broke three tackles and took a screen for 48 yards on the first play of scrimmage.
