Representative Andy Ogles proposes a constitutional amendment to enable President Donald Trump to serve a third term, citing Trump's 'bold leadership' and dedication to the nation.

A Tennessee representative has introduced a resolution that aims to amend the US Constitution, permitting President Donald Trump to serve a third term . Representative Andy Ogles , a Republican from Tennessee , believes this change is crucial to maintain the 'bold leadership' the nation desperately needs.

According to a press release issued on Thursday, Ogles' proposed amendment to the 22nd Amendment would stipulate: 'No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.' Ogles asserted that it is 'imperative' to provide Trump with the necessary resources to counteract the 'disastrous course' set by the Biden administration. He emphasized Trump's commitment to the American people and his mission to restore the republic. Ogles stated, 'President Trump has shown time and time again that his loyalty lies with the American people and our great nation above all else. He is dedicated to restoring the republic and saving our country, and we, as legislators and as states, must do everything in our power to support him.' The 22nd Amendment, ratified in 1951, currently restricts an individual from serving more than two presidential terms. This amendment was passed in 1947 by Congress as a response to Franklin Delano Roosevelt winning four terms in the White House. Roosevelt passed away the year following his fourth-term election in 1944. Over the course of US history, around 11,000 proposed constitutional amendments have been put forth, but only 27 have been successfully ratified since its drafting in 1787. This includes the initial ten amendments, known as the Bill of Rights, which were added four years later. According to the Truman Library, a vast majority of proposed amendments fail to advance beyond committees and subcommittees. While the likelihood of this particular amendment being ratified is extremely low, the resolution demonstrates the unwavering support some within the Republican Party hold for Trump. Trump himself alluded to the possibility of serving a third term during a private meeting with House Republicans late last year. Although multiple sources who attended the event claimed that Trump was joking, his comments sparked significant discussion. During his campaign, Trump made statements suggesting that his Christian supporters wouldn't need to vote again once he assumed office. He later attempted to clarify his remarks during an interview with FOX News' Laura Ingraham, stating that Christians don't typically vote in substantial numbers. However, he made similar comments at another Christian-focused event, expressing concern over Christian voter turnout and urging them to participate in elections. He told the audience, 'In four years, you don’t have to vote, OK? In four years, don’t vote. I don’t care.
