Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti's office reports documents obtained from the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement show a plan to release migrants into the state was "derailed" and pushback from the governor and lawmakers "ultimately stopped" the plan.
ICE officials, the State learned, had been cooperating with Tennessee-based organizations and municipal employees to carry out the release plan. AG Skrmetti then filed a FOIA request to ICE and filed suit in October of 2023, resulting in the document being released.Now, Skrmetti's office reports the documents show "coordination between ICE, Nashville city officials, and a Tennessee immigration nonprofit to arrange for the mass release of detainees into Tennessee.
