A Tennessee councilman is set to introduce a resolution next week regarding downtown Nashville safety improvements following the death of Riley Strain.

District 19 councilman Jacob Kupin plans to introduce a resolution to call for both immediate and long-term action.

Metro Police Chief John Drake said the department received a call from an employee who works along the river. The worker was removing an object from the water when a body surfaced. Now, Kupin is calling for multiple Metro departments to do a year-long study on how to make the area safer, including better fencing, cameras, lighting and trash cleanup.

Another piece to all of this, according to Kupin, is working with homeless services to find homes for the unhoused living along the river.
