Ten people were killed and 30 injured when a vehicle drove into a crowd on New Orleans ' famed Canal and Bourbon Street in the first hours of New Year's Day, according to NOLA Ready, the city’s emergency preparedness agency. It all happened around 3:15 at the world-famous Canal and Bourbon Street in the French Quarter when a truck plowed through a crowd of people.Fans were shocked to learn what happened while they were asleep.

Many Notre Dame fans made the trip to New Orleans to start the new year off by watching Irish take on Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.“I think shock was my initial reaction especially like like knowing we were so close and that we literally just left that area,” said Austin Ward. “We actually laid down around 3, 3:30. We heard the sirens didn't think anything of it but then when we woke up this morning, that's when we first found out about Everything,” said Ward.Hodge Patel said he woke up to his phone buzzing with texts to see if him and his son, Elliott, were okay.
