Work being funded by $500,000 from Santa Cruz County’s Measure D .
Temporary road repairs are underway on Mountain Charlie Road in Los Gatos, seen here in March after a landslide caused it to collapse.Residents near a landslide in the Santa Cruz Mountains that took place earlier this year will soon have access to a temporary road as they wait for the county to procure at least $3 million to fund a permanent, long-term repair.
“I will share with the community that this money has traditionally been used for our pavement management program, and so what that really means is that a lot of the projects that we would normally be doing on an annual basis up in the San Lorenzo Valley and greater Scotts Valley area aren’t going to get done,” Wiesner said at the meeting. “So this is a big sacrifice for the rest of the community to provide funding for this temporary road.
But with the construction, county officials have restricted pedestrian access on the slide from 8 a.m. to noon and 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. to allow construction crews to work on the project.Santa Cruz County officials are also continuing to work on getting funding from outside sources for the long-term repairs to the slide.
