Two teens who police allege were involved in a horrifying fire which destroyed an historic building in Sydney’s CBD have fronted court for the first time.
More than 100 firefighters rushed to extinguish the blaze which ripped through the heritage-listed building on Randle St in Surry Hills on May 25.
Following a lengthy investigation, police in August charged the two 13-year-old boys, who cannot be named under law, with starting the fire. Instead, the NSW DPP would be electing a Crown prosecutor to oversee the teen’s case, which will reappear before the same court on November 11. The teens are both charged with destroying property worth more than $5000 with fire and in company, and entering enclosed lands without permission.
