The three teens accused of setting off mass panic at the Chinatown Seafair Parade in the Chinatown-International District last week are now all back home.

All three were arrested with loaded guns – and police say two of those guns had been modified with a Glock switch to become fully automatic.
King County prosecutors argued in court against the teens’ release for the community’s safety, but the judge stated she wanted to see if these teens could turn things around with the community support programs and interventions put in place to keep them on track. A 13-year-old and two 14-year-olds are accused of bringing loaded modified guns to the crowded parade on July 21. The prosecutor in court noted one of the teens had a behavior issue in detention just the night before.“ was banging on the door shouting inappropriate comments towards the staff and making threats,” King County Senior Deputy Prosecutor Jamie Kvistad said. “This happened the night before his detention review when he came before this court today to ask for release.” “You are not going to hold this child for the rest of his life, so let’s stop pretending holding people here is going to solve and resolve the issues," Judge Veronica Galvan responded in court. "That is not going to work.” The teens are all connected with community support and mentorship programs like Alive & Free at the YMCA, Seattle Cares, and Community Passageways, which are supposed to help them and their families stay on track. “They know the situation, they know the circumstances, and they know me, so they’re coming also to support me and my son and show me how to be a better parent because I dropped the ball somewhere with my son,” one of the teen suspects’ mothers said in court Tuesday.Bodycam video shows Seattle police arrest 3 teens brandishing guns at CID parade “Young man, that also means you are going to have to put in the work,” Judge Galvan said as she addressed one of the teen suspects. “You are still in significant trouble, and if you continue down this path, you’re going to get in even more trouble. We’re trying to avoid that.” Court documents say the three teens showed up to the parade and appeared to be taunting a murder victim’s family. According to court records, “One of the teens made a show of pulling his hoodie up from his waistband and reaching into his waistband to retrieve a handgun.” That’s when witnesses say they heard gunshots, and people started running. Some of the teens will be allowed to attend activities like football practice and church while on electronic home monitoring.
