" Police said the alleged attack happened a few blocks from Madison Square Garden after Game 4 of the NBA Finals game between the Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday shortly before midnight. Investigators said the teenager was approached by a group of unidentified individuals and became involved in an argument about the Knicks. Members of the group then began punching and kicking the boy, police said.
"The dispute escalated, and the individuals proceeded to punch and kick the victim about the head and body, causing the victim to suffer a seizure and subsequently go into a coma," NYPD said, according to the Department of Public Information, or DCPI. "The unidentified individuals fled the location on foot in an unknown direction. " Police said first responders arrived at the scene and took the boy to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where he was in critical but stable condition.
The NYPD later released an image of one of the individuals wanted in connection with the alleged assault and asked for the public's help identifying and tracking down the suspect. The incident came as thousands of fans gathered in New York City during Game 4 of the NBA Finals. While the area outside Madison Square Garden has been heavily policed, postgame celebrations have turned chaotic.
Police said 56 people were taken into custody after Game 4 on a variety of charges, including assault on a police officer and weapons possession.
