A teenager was arrested Friday night after allegedly fleeing from police while participating in illegal street racing on a Salt Lake City roadway.
Upon arrival, officers observed two vehicles speeding toward them, one in the correct lane and the other in the wrong lane. Both cars were initially stopped but fled almost simultaneously. An 18-year-old man was arrested and charged with illegal street racing, and his vehicle was impounded. He was booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail.
“Known for its long, wide-open streets, participants have flocked to the city’s industrial area of the Pioneer Patrol Division to engage in illegal street racing,” police said.
